I’m an airline pilot, and I spend 15 nights per month in hotels in various countries. This small device fits in my hand and is easy to put in my luggage without adding bulk or weight. I gave it 4 stars because the instructions require a couple of minutes to make sure it’s installed correctly the first time. After that, it’s easy to install. No one can enter your room once it’s installed, even if they have a key. The small chain just keeps the two pieces from being separated and isn’t required for anything else. The metal piece slides into the wall hole for the deadbolt while the red, plastic piece wedges against the door. I have only encountered one door that was too tight for this to fit, but all other doors have worked perfectly.

Did not work on hotel doors in Italy
I bought this for a 10 day tour of Italy. I tried it at home before I left. I found it a bit heavy and clunky, but decided to pack it for my trip. Unfortunately, I was unable to use it in any of the hotels on my trip. The doors hav an added “lip” on the inside of the door, creating an overlap. There was no way to install the metal bracket in place and close the door. I will keep the lock to use on domestic trips, but the weight and limited functionality are a detriment for air travel.

Unable to fit the electronic door of our Hilton Hotel accommodations
I attempted to use this portable lock in the door of a Hilton Hotel in a European capital city. It is a modernized building with the electronic locks that you can open with your mobile phone using the Hilton app. The layout of the door strike simply could not work with this item. I read the instructions carefully and watched the tutorial videos, but there was no way it could fit.I am sure this lock works well in doors where it fits the deadbolt, but in my case it was unfortunately useless.

I’m traveling soon for wedding and will have a few nights hotel stay. I read the reviews and was pleased with what others had to say. I’ll feel more secure with this on my hotel room door.
