    Don’t count on this lock
While this door lock uses a clever principle, it has two basic flaws:1. When the “claw” is hooked into the strike plate, it blocks the latch bolt from engaging the hole in the strike plate.2. When this door lock is installed, Flaw #1 leaves looseness that doesn’t allow the door to be closed tightly, making it easier to force the door open from outside. The slack left by the setup actually allows more force to be applied than would a tightly closed door. Now, if the door has no built-in lock of its own, this device undoubtedly adds a tiny bit more security. But if it’s being used as a backup (in hotel doors, or adjoining room doors, for example) it’s only marginally effective. Anyone can put a shoulder to the door and defeat it.The claw part needs – at the very least – to have a larger end, with a hole for the latch bolt to go through so it can engage the strike plate. But the lock is still loose to some extent, and it wiggles in the space between the door and the door frame, making it flimsy. On the plus side, it is made of pretty strong steel, and the lock piece is magnetized to keep it handy. But if you’re counting on this device for your safety and security, you might well be disappointed.I can’t give this lock more than 1 star. For users to be safe, they need something more effective than this. There are other solutions available, although most of them that use this same principle suffer from some of the same weaknesses. Unfortunately, this one is weaker than most others.

    Hard to figure out
I recently traveled out of town, and I wanted to try this thing out. The first issue is that there were no instructions on how to properly use it. I looked online and the videos I found were for either a similar product or nothing close to it. I looked on the Amazon site and that video also didn’t help. Maybe it would’ve worked if I had another person with me to test it out further, but that also goes against the idea of traveling alone. I ended up smashing my finger, so I tossed it back in my luggage and just used the hotel locks. I really wanted to use this product, but I will be looking for something else.

    Very close to completely useless
This device is just about completely useless. This is a zero star item. It can only be used on very specific inward opening doors, and only those with lots of extra space on the strike plate, which I’ve yet to find. It’s too big to use with the standard door latch bolt as it blocks the bolt from engaging the strike plate. If there’s a deadbolt, you can use it instead of the deadbolt, but it’s much more flimsy and much less secure, so that doesn’t make any sense. Poorly designed. Just put a chair under the door knob and you’re better off.

Recommended – Extra layer of security and peace of mind at great price
Bottom line, this is a deterrent, not a magic shield and as that works about as expected. I have tried a number of these devices at this point, and this is solidly in the middle of the pack. The primary thing most people don’t mention is that this really only works to secure a door against someone who can turn the handle, i.e. with a key or by picking the lock.If breaking the door down is their goal, this is the least of their worries. With that said, it’s well-made, the magnet holds it together conveniently, and it works with a lot of doors, most specifically of the hotel/motel type. No device like this I have tried works with all doors; there is just too much variety, just in the US alone. If travelling by car, you could try the brace type that leans against the door is probably the most universal and most proof against brute force efforts. But it’s large, bulky and heavy. As far as something you can stick in your carry-on bag and work with a lot of average doors and give you an extra layer of defence, this is a good choice, especially at this price. Recommended

Solid Extra Layer for Door Security, Though Not Bulletproof
I’ve been looking for something simple to boost door security when I’m staying in hotels or short-term rentals, and this portable door lock caught my eye for its straightforward design. It’s basically a compact metal piece with prongs that slip into the strike plate on the door frame, then a red handle locks it in place to prevent the door from being pushed open from outside. Made from what feels like sturdy steel, it’s got a nice weight to it without being bulky about the size of a large keychain, so it tucks easily into a carry-on or pocket. The idea is smart for travelers or anyone in temporary spots where you can’t install permanent hardware, and it does add that extra bit of peace of mind against casual intruders. That said, while it’s solid enough for basic use, the prongs aren’t as long as I’d like, which means they don’t always seat deeply into the latch on every door type. I’ve noticed it works best on standard inward-opening doors with a decent gap, but on some older frames or ones with tighter fits, it can feel a little wobbly. Compared to bulkier door jammers or bars I’ve tried, this one’s lighter and more discreet, which is great for portability, but that trade-off means it’s not the toughest option out there—if someone’s really determined, it might not hold up as well. Still, for the price and convenience, it’s a worthwhile pickup if you’re after quick, no-tools setup rather than heavy-duty fortification. Overall, it does the job for everyday scenarios, just don’t expect it to replace a deadbolt.

    Another layer of security!
Just used this in a hotel room. No instructions were not included but we were able to figure it out fairly easily. This is a deterrent for those who have access to the room, with a key or can turn the handle. It’s one more layer of security, however when there is a will, there is a way. So this is just one more level of security but is not fool proof. It seems to be made of stainless steel, is very compact and lightweight, so perfect for travel. It does only work on doors opening inward and ones that have an opening gap for something like this. You have to make sure the strike plate clears the door frame when it is closed, or it won’t fit in there correctly. Newer doors may be an issue. It is good to have one for hotels and AirBNBS when traveling.
