This Defender Security doorknob lock-out device is designed to be mounted directly over the entry doorknob to prevent access to the keyhole only, effectively preventing unauthorized access by key. The durable, diecast cylinder is held in place with a removable O-ring for cleaning the cylinder when the lock-out device is unlocked and open. The cylinder cannot be removed when the device is closed and locked. This lock-out device is often used in evictions, rentals, home sales, on job sites, in-home, on in-office storage room knobs to keep other keyholders out, even if they have a key to the door. Well what can I say about this, the material is amazing every time I’d drop it it would almost break the hardwood floor comically like a bolder funniest thing ever. This gave me the peace of mind and safety in a DV situation it treated me well I was very happy with the product it weighs a ton so it can also behave as a makeshift weapon if your opening the doorIt functions with genuine care as well like you cannot twist the door lock with this thing on it’ll just spin around it which infuriates intruders enough to give up. Amazingly you don’t have to even have a proper knob this is the lock, it fits a variety of knobs and I think it had an extra key. But this made my abusers life hell when they wanted to come and hurt me it provided a safe buffer and they would give up thank you to whoever made this genuinelyI will say tho before I moved the lock was getting sunken in and I could open it with an knife or a paper clip but it looks scary enough to where nobody that didn’t see you do that would know to even try it and there’s one trigger zone sweet spot what took me 2 mins or less than 15 seconds could easily take someone else 5 hours or more because it’s such a small particular sweet spot

There can be times when, for one reason or another, one cannot replace the doorknob and lock assembly in a residence. This can be when not wanting to alter older and antique brass hardware, to keep youngsters out of a room or closet where they aren’t wanted, or when a temporary solution is needed.This Prime-Line Products EP 4180 Knob Lock-Out Device is a good solution for any of those situations. It’s a robust die-cast device, well-crafted from aluminum or some other alloy, and is grey in color, though that seems to be clearcoat over the alloy. It’s good as a temporary answer to a privacy problem, or as a moderate-level security solution, designed to cover round entry doorknobs, and it does that well.The neck of some older, smaller doorknobs will be slightly exposed, but would still be difficult for most to open unless they were quite resolved to get in. The black portion in the image illustrates where the neck of a doorknob would go. It also comes with a pair of matched brass keys, and the mechanism works smoothly.The product description states: “This lockout device is often used to in apartment evictions.” If that’s your purpose then go for it, but there’s no doubt that a strongly motivated thief couldn’t bypass this with the quick blow of a hammer, shattering its housing. It that respect, very few locks or mechanisms will hold up, as any good security expert can tell you. Must add Oil!!!!
I own one of the better ones. I think I paid sixty bucks for it. Yes the other one is better made… But not in the ways you would think.. This one is just as heavy, The only thing it is lacking is a really good locking mechanism. But you can save yourself a lot of time just by doing these few simple steps…This will make it work more efficiently. 100%.First off, use 20 weight motor oil In the lock. You want to shoot it in to the lock with either a syringe. Or by dipping the key into the oil and putting it into the lock.. Repeatedly.. It don’t take much oil! So only coat your key maybe twice.. Also, add a little bit of oil to the inside of the lock. Once you open the door protector..After this, you will want to add a little bit of the same oil to a paper towel. Lightly add the oil to the.Inside The cavity of theDevice making sure it cannot turn the doorknob. After doing this it will just slide around the knob. Leaving very little residue.. I will update if there is any mechanical failure within the lock. Do not soak this in oil… But as with any door lock. It does need to be oiled before use. I am a locksmith.

Our house had the backdoor locks picked by a burglar, thankfully our dog woke up and scared them away.I needed something to place on the backdoor to make it harder to pick my locks…this is perfect!I also bought Locktight adhesive and will permanently glue it together, as I saw the review that this is easily picked. Regardless of that review (thank you for informing us) I still bought it, because it is an extra layer of protection. Theives want quick and easy entry, and this will be one more barrier to overcome for them. They will have to use a hammer to break it away after I glue it sealed, but that noise will definitely wake us and let us arm ourselves for their unwelcomed entry.Other reviews are posting unfair ratings because they use this on an interior door thinking it can’t be opened. This is not for that! This is to prevent your lock being picked, not to place on unlocked doors! This is to prevent a locked door from being picked! The metal casing is sturdy, and it covers the the keyhole, so a burglar would have to pick this lock, then pick your door lock. It’s an added measure of security that makes it not so easy to get in, remember, they want quick and easy entry, and this metal casing has an appearance of strong deterrent.I highly recommend this product!

Fits well around our fairly standard door knobs. Great for locking out spare room when we have house sitters, and using it to store our irreplaceables. The little o ring around the lock barrel seems to be pretty flimsy and broke immediately but doesn’t affect the function really.
