Lock works wonderful. The biggest disappointment is that it was not put back onto my luggage on my last trip from Dubai to Dulles. I bought a Samonite replacement and it is not as good.

Very good lock for Pelican case
We use several Pelican cases to ship equipment. I had been using Brookstone cable locks, but tried this Pelican brand lock. It costs more than the Brookstone ones, but is very well built. I only consider these locks enoughtto keep prying eyes and fingers out of the cases during transport, and they are TSA compliant (which means TSA can open them with a key). This lock is also larger and heavier than the Brookstones ones, but I think it is more secure. For cases, I highly recommend the Pelican locks. The cable fits the heavy plastic mounts on the cases, which smaller locks will not. For a cary-on bag, this might be too heavy. Overall, a great product for its intended use. Also, Pelican stands by its products, replacing flashlights and furnishing broken latches on cases. A fine company.

These lock was fine…On just about any case. For a Pelican Case use two. I ship high value cargo in Pelican case international frequently. Not an issue. But with anything using the right product with the right case matters.TSA standards require how it is made and function. Meaning quality lock. Seems to be a lot of fake reviews on Amazon these day. I hope that helps.

Strong lock but the TSA might force it open anyway
Easy to use. But I now need to buy another one. On the fourth time through an airport and the third time by bags were opened by the TSA, they decided to cut off the lock rather than use their special FSA key. I can see by the dents in the wire that their wire cutters failed. Eventually the TSA managed to wrench the lock apart. As they told me they are NOT responsible for damage if I lock my case EVEN IF I use an TSA approved lock. What is so interesting about my bag? I check my PC and its assorted power supply and wires which probably shows up on the x-ray hence their curiosity. So, this is obviously a strong lock but remember the TSA does not have to honor the TSA approval if they do not want to and if you put lots of interesting wires in your bag they will want to open it.

Updated after 90 days – JUNK! small and poorly built
90 day review – JUNK!! threw out 2 of them.Number wheels for combo are small, hard to read, and very loose – number wheels slip a lot so it is not easy to dial in the code – wheels don’t ‘click’ in to place. Lock itself was fine for 6 trips so far, but did not last for 90 days. Pelican should be ashamed to have their name on these.Master lock sells similar size but much better construction for $10 all day at home depot and lowes – go get them there or find the Master TSA set here on amazon – combo wheels are black and white contrast so they are easy to read, and they click in place to hold the combo and open as designed.

Perfect for locking my Pelican Case
Because of the slightly thicker casing around the lock hole, you can’t use a typical luggage lock on most pelican cases. This item does the trick perfectly with the flex cabling that can be fed in the hole. With only 3 digit combo, one could argue that with enough time someone could figure out the code, but considering that it is used for shipping only, that argument could be made for most combo locks. The amount of slack in the cable allows someone to slightly open the case, but when I messed around with it, I was unable to actually pull anything out. If you need to lock your pelican case for shipping, this is a great get!

solid construction
I’m not sure if Pelican actually makes this or not, but it definitely is made solid like their travel cases. I bought the Pelican 1750 case to transport my 338 Lapua Mag rifle to go on Elk hunts. Having one of these locks on each of the 2 metal lock latches on the case will give me comfort that my rifle will make it securely to my destination and only the TSA will get into that case.The knobbs are very smooth and tight (not sloppy and unprecise like other TSA locks I have owned) and the cable/locking mechanism seems much stronger than other locks in this category that I have owned. The body of this lock does not flex and feels like it was constructed to take a lot of abuse.
