When the “Do Not Disturb” hanger isn’t enough!
This little device adds some piece of mind where a locked door isn’t enough or isn’t there at all. It slips into the lock plate of the door, and a metal plate that reminds me of moth wings is held in place on to the door frame and door with a wingnut. It’s metal and lightweight and can be carried in your pocket. Once you get the hang of inserting this into a lock plate, the setup is fast. Is this little guy going to keep out an intruder that wants in? No. Kicking in a door will defeat this contraption easily. Will it stop someone trying to open the door with a key or just twisting the knob. Yes. Are you going to hear someone trying to enter the room? Absolutely. For some added sturdiness, there’s a bolt attached to the portion of the “wings” that press against the door and door frame. Three drawbacks I ran into, first, the black coating comes off easily. Second, chances are good, if you overtighten the device, you’re going to leave a mark or two on the door you’re trying to secure. Third, you’re not leaving the room you locked yourself into quickly. You’ve got to unscrew the wingnut to create enough room for the “wings” to swing clear of the door. I like the idea that I can lock a bathroom door that may not have a lock or have that extra layer of noise and protection in a hotel room. For ease to use this device and carry it around (it easily fits into my pocket), the benefits easily outweigh the drawbacks.
